About Yin Yoga

Yin yoga at U Fit Thrive in Leicester is a gentle, meditative style of yoga that primarily involves seated or lying down poses. It focuses on stretching and stimulating the deep connective tissues of the body, such as the fascia, ligaments, joints, and bones, particularly in the hips, pelvis, lower back, and shoulders.

The long duration of the poses in Yin yoga encourages a slow, deep release of tension and a calming of the mind. Unlike more active yoga practices that focus on muscle engagement and movement (Yang practices), Yin yoga is characterized by its passive approach, where gravity aids in the stretch, and muscles are allowed to relax.

Yin yoga is based on the Taoist concepts of yin and yang, opposite and complementary principles in nature. Yin is the stable, unmoving, hidden aspect of things; yang is the changing, moving, revealing aspect. In the body, the relatively stiff connective tissues (tendons, ligaments, fascia) are yin, while the more mobile and pliable muscles and blood are yang.

This style of yoga is known to stimulate the meridians (energy channels) in the body, which are thought to improve the flow of qi (vital energy) and lead to better organ health, immunity, and emotional well-being. It's a contemplative practice that offers a chance to turn inward and nurture the calm, quiet center that is innate in all of us. It is a wonderful counterbalance to the fast-paced and physically demanding aspects of modern life and more active yoga practices, and the perfect practice for Leicester yoga aficionados. Why not experience our Yin Yoga in Leicester for yourself with a 28 day pass, or just book a single class and go at your own pace.

Work with the Best

Our personal trainers bring together decades of experience and a wide variety of skills and expertise to the studio. Working as a seamless team they create a holistic journey for our members from walking through the door to reaching your goals.

Georgina Smith

George first found yoga in 2011 whilst volunteering in Sri Lanka. On her return to the UK, she experimented with a variety of styles to compliment her creative lifestyle.

Her laid-back vibes naturally led her to explore Yin Yoga; a passive practice that aspires to work deeper into the connective tissues of the body through long held poses. George has trained and practiced alongside a number of important figures in the yoga world including Bernie Clark and David Swenson. She is currently working on content for her own yoga teacher training course by continuing to study with the most renowned teachers worldwide and truly hopes to inspire others to follow.

George aims to challenge students in their yoga practice with playful compositions and extraordinary asanas whilst soothing them with her compassionate and peaceful nature.

Emily Hartley

Emily has been teaching yoga and meditation for over seven years and has travelled regularly to Rishikesh, India to train and deepen her practice.

Complimenting her asana practice and teaching, she has explored mindfulness-based meditation practices, Tantra and Bhakti which she integrates into her teaching and life.

Emily's yoga classes are focused on mindful movement, with detailed attention to postural alignment and breath. By allowing your body to arrive at the posture that is right for you, the resulting practice is safe, comfortable and appropriately challenging. She aims for students to step off the mat feeling refreshed, energised and grounded.

Sukhina Garcia

Sukhina began yoga practice over 20 years ago, finding it a great way to de-stress from a hectic career. Later on, she began to deepen her practice whilst recovering from an injury that lead to daily chronic pain with great success and at 40 she decided to retrain and become a qualified practitioner.

Sukhina’s practices (yoga, meditation and sound therapy) focus on the activation of the parasympathetic nervous system, aiding with rest, relaxation and rejuvenation.

She aims to create a space to relax and release all the turmoil of the world, where the inner world can become a more habitable place, helping with focus, goals, the creation of healthy habits and living life more joyfully.
