Restorative Yoga Classes in Leicester

The main focus of Restorative yoga is that by relaxing in poses, with the aid of props, without strain or pain, we can achieve physical, mental and emotional relaxation. Restorative yoga classes are very relaxing and slow paced. Props like blocks, bolsters, blankets and straps are used so that you are supported in your pose comfortably. You hold the pose for an extended period of time. This practice is great to add balance to an active yoga schedule or to build valuable rest and recovery into your lifestyle.

About Restorative

Restorative yoga at U Fit Thrive in Leicester is a gentle, calming, therapeutic kind of yoga that uses props to support the body in positions of comfort and ease to facilitate relaxation and health. It is a practice focused on relaxation, renewal, effortlessness, and ease, rather than on stretching or strengthening. This form of yoga is particularly suitable for those experiencing stress, recovering from injury, or seeking a gentle way to unwind and de-stress.

In Restorative yoga, poses are held for longer periods, typically five to twenty minutes, allowing the practitioner to sink into deep relaxation and let go of tension. The use of props such as blankets, bolsters, yoga blocks, and eye pillows helps to support the body in various postures, ensuring that there is no strain or pain. This support and stability allow the muscles to relax deeply, the heart rate to lower, and the nervous system to shift into a more balanced state.

The poses in Restorative yoga are often adaptations of supine or seated yoga poses and are designed to allow the body to comfortably rest and rejuvenate. Common restorative poses include supported child's pose, supported bridge pose, legs-up-the-wall pose, and supported savasana (corpse pose).

Freya Gibbs

Freya is a Yoga Therapist and artist based in Leicester. She shares gentle, nourishing movement and meditation practices with the intention of supporting her students to connect with their bodies in a loving, kind and compassionate way. 

 

Freya’s classes are both therapeutic and creative, encouraging her students to find joy and a sense of awe through moving their bodies.

Sukhina Garcia

Sukhina began yoga practice over 20 years ago, finding it a great way to de-stress from a hectic career. Later on, she began to deepen her practice whilst recovering from an injury that lead to daily chronic pain with great success and at 40 she decided to retrain and become a qualified practitioner. 

 

Sukhina’s practices (yoga, meditation and sound therapy) focus on the activation of the parasympathetic nervous system, aiding with rest, relaxation and rejuvenation. 

 

She aims to create a space to relax and release all the turmoil of the world, where the inner world can become a more habitable place, helping with focus, goals, the creation of healthy habits and living life more joyfully.
