Vinyasa Yoga is one of the most dynamic forms of yoga, in which specific postures are practiced in tandem with gaze (drsti), breath control (pranayama) and energy locks (bandhas). It is a system that purifies and strengthens the physical body, whilst harmonising the mental and energetic bodies in a moving meditation. About Vinyasa Flow

Vinyasa Flow Yoga is a dynamic and fluid style of yoga that emphasises the connection between movement and breath. Practitioners transition smoothly from one pose (asana) to another, creating a seamless "flow" of movements that are synchronised with the breath. This style is known for its diversity and can include a wide range of poses, allowing for a variety of sequences that can be tailored to different levels of ability and focus.

In Vinyasa Flow at our Leicester studio, the gaze is directed towards a specific point during each pose, which differs according to the position. For example, in forward bends, the gaze might be directed towards the nose or the toes. This focused gaze helps to reduce distractions, allowing the practitioner to remain present and centred during the flow. It also aids in maintaining the balance and alignment of the body, as where the eyes go, the body tends to follow.

Incorporating gaze (drsti) into Vinyasa Flow yoga enhances the meditative aspect of the practice, turning it into a moving meditation that can lead to a deeper state of concentration and introspection. The combination of movement, breath, and focused gaze helps to cultivate a sense of mindfulness and connection between the body, mind, and spirit, which is a central aim of yoga.

Georgina Smith

George first found yoga in 2011 whilst volunteering in Sri Lanka. On her return to the UK, she experimented with a variety of styles to compliment her creative lifestyle.

 

Her laid-back vibes naturally led her to explore Yin Yoga; a passive practice that aspires to work deeper into the connective tissues of the body through long held poses. George has trained and practiced alongside a number of important figures in the yoga world including Bernie Clark and David Swenson. She is currently working on content for her own yoga teacher training course by continuing to study with the most renowned teachers worldwide and truly hopes to inspire others to follow.

 

George aims to challenge students in their yoga practice with playful compositions and extraordinary asanas whilst soothing them with her compassionate and peaceful nature.
